On this episode we share our driving impressions of the 2022 Genesis GV70, and how it compares to its larger sibling the GV80, as well as others in the small luxury SUV segment. We also share a story about how a question from a Talking Cars viewer led to a change in the IIHS' ratings for the Mazda CX-5. Other topics include: how you can save money when getting brakes replaced at a dealership; if driving a car in Sport mode will wear out an engine faster; whether vehicle undercoating is worth the investment; and our experts suggest reliable, fun used 4×4 SUVs under 10k that are great for tackling rutted dirt roads.

The dealership will usually only install their own factory parts.
Brake rotors are essentially disposable at this point, most shops haven’t used their brake lathes in years.
Excellent explanation on brakes Jennifer 👍🏽
Rust lives on in the rust belt, upstate NY cars still suffer from heavy rusting issues.
Krown Rustproofing is simply the best.
Stick with the Ford Flex Jen!!! I *LOVE* that vehicle and am sad that it isn’t being built anymore. We have an old Suburban with great visibility, and I was looking to the Flex as another boxy vehicle with a lot of utility and great visibility. 🙁
Nissan /infiniti do not have a future. I work on those and can only say they are junk. No way there is any future there. Total crap
I would buy the GV70 because it’s almost $20k cheaper (comparing the top trims of both, sport version of GV70). But I want the cargo capacity of the GV80 that I prefer.
About the undercoating. Newer cars do have rust problems still. I have seen a 5 year old Ford F-150 all rusted out already. My 2010 Ford Fusion has rusted rocker panels and a hole in the floor. So there’s still an problem at the factory, where they’re not putting enough protection.
I routinely hear how great the Genesis cars are, however, I rarely see any on the road. I live in a pretty affluent area (greater Seattle area). So I don’t think it’s an issue of affordability. Tesla Model3 is the equivalent of a Honda Civic in the early 90’s.
I made this comment on another YT channel and they cited low or lack of inventory as the reason. Do you agree? I can go days without seeing one pre-Covid.
Live in the same area- they have extremely low inventory and the GV80/G80 launched during the pandemic. It doesn’t help that they don’t lease particularly well and their only dealer is in Kirkland. You have to really want one.
That great idea on the Genesis GV70 of a power passenger seat ajustment located so the driver or rear seat passenger can access is NOT a new idea. The Lexus LS430 had it back when, more than15 years ago….
I love that you guys are on YouTube. That way when you talk about topics I don’t care about like child safety seats or you review cars that are too expensive or get crappy gas mileage, I can just fast forward until you hit a topic of interest. Keep up the great work.
I have a 2019 G70 which I love. I would consider switching to a GV70 if they introduce a hybrid or electric version.
On Brakes – shops also no longer want to spend the time to turn rotors, and very few of their employees will have that skill. It just is not worth the trouble for any large service center or dealer to do that work. Everything now is replace, not repair.
Will these vehicles be available as a ev? If so, I would buy the GV 70 in a heartbeat.
GV70: the 3.5TT uses less fuel than the 2.5T… about 1L/100KM less..!!
