Tell The Airlines: Kids Should Sit With Parents | Consumer Reports 1

American, Delta and United all charge fees for families to sit together on flights. In some cases, even 2-year-olds have to sit alone. Consumer Reports believes this is a safety issue and testified before Congress to help push for change. Want to see the airlines change? Sign the petition at

If you have ever been charged more to sit with your child on a flight, you can file a complaint at

  1. A link to the petition needs to be in the video description.

  2. All people have to make arrangements for seating. Make plans ahead of time to have the chance your sitting altogether INCLUDING PARENTS. Children should not sit apart from their parents.🆕🆕 Elderly couples shoul not sit apart from each other . BOOK YOUR FLIGHTS EARLY!!!

    • That’s not always possible – n to seat a 1,2, or 3 year old apart from the parent is demonic … plain n simple

    • nicholas8nj yup, I agree. Almost every single airline allows you to pay to choose your seats. Don’t complain to the government because you didn’t plan accordingly

    • @Kyanne Marie that was one of the great decisions that you made and I hope that majority of people would agree because if you do not plan of course you can sit right next to each other whether you’re couple or friends or whatever it may be so they disappointed parents who are complaining are the ones I want all the airlines to bend backwards for them even though the other people who have planned ahead to get these seats so there’s no reason for that the airline’s is doing the best they can have a good day

  3. Thank you consumer report for leading this fight

You should teach your kid about geography and Beloved Parks, Land, Cities ect. No polluting Earth for your convenience and crap kids!

  4. The parents have some responsibility in this.

  5. Way to take all responsibility from the consumer. Almost every single airline allows you to pay to choose your seats or to upgrade your priority in the boarding queue. If you can’t afford to or planned poorly so you can’t have the privileges that other people pay to have, then you need to change the way you plan.

  6. We just flew 3 days ago with Spirit and paid extra to pick our seats together. We built that cost into the tickets, and they were still less expensive. Good experience for us and I’d recommend. Another family on our flight didn’t do that, and there was a screaming, crying child for the first 15 minutes of the flight. Thankfully the person sitting next to the child offered to switch with the parent, and the child calmed down. The passengers’ ears, flight attendants, parent and child were all grateful for the switch.
I get that it is cash grab though. So just raise the price of the ticket an build it in. They already have the assigned seat program made.

  7. The option is there for people who want to save $ and don’t mind sitting apart. It’s not intended to separate families. Some people just don’t pay attention when booking tickets so that’s on them.

  8. More corporate greed at the expense of others.

  9. Who suffers the consequence of the mandate? The person who reserved an aisle seat two months prior but now has to move to accommodate the parent who couldn’t, for whatever reason, book that early? Why should that person be treated like that? How on Earth are the airlines going to be able to meet whatever mandate is thought up without moving other paying customers around the cabin against their wishes?

    • Yep.

    • It’s all about corporate (i.e primary share holders/main owners) greed at all cost😸👹🎩here using fine print/ bait& switch approach using bargain price as the base for this popular scam, where they Give No Upfront Open Warning / Clarity -> kids separation, Tiny tiny back pack or fee of same as air ticket cost😱 not small change fees,

then airport in the boondocks w/o public land transit costing more than air ticket by their own coach co+ long long drives, then the no water/ food or pay another air ticket costs,

yes 1-5% savvy young healthy prepared, no luggage, stomach & clothes stuffed, etc smart single traveller may win,

but the rest 90+% get trapped by these additional proportionally v high add on costs ending up costing near same air ticket as conventional airline ones but w misery of tiny plane tight seats, long local travels etc, these airline should be big letters up front to new pry ones than trickery corporate high add on plots like many other scam corporate-ones like uber & all other cabs, car rentals, storage rentals, some restaurants etc businesses thrive on add on charges after luring in the prys 😰👿😱😸👹💰💰🏧💼

  10. We fly delta and always use the cheapest flights. Every time, once I purchase the flights online, I pick up the phone and call a Delta and they are happy to assign our seats so our family is together. I do this at least 6 times per year for the past 5 years. The nice people who answer the phone say it’s their policy to keep families together. There has never been a charge.

  11. THANK YOU for standing up to this injustice based in corporate greed

  12. Why is it up to the government to regulate this? Most of these situations are just due to poor planning on the parents’ part

  13. If I you are flying with a small child, you have the responsibility to confirm your seats are together. This isn’t the airline’s fault.

  14. The airline asks if kids are flying. Why not ask “do you want your seat together” at that point?

  15. Booking a seat shouldn’t cost extra, the airline isn’t actually doing anything, it’s just you clicking an icon on a website, it should just be a standard unskippable part of booking.

  16. If someone is too inept to book their seats appropriately, so they are with their kids, I worry about their other aspects of parenting as well.

  17. Happened to me on Southwest
