We’ve seen a lot of videos featuring the new F90 BMW M5 beating some seriously fast opposition so far. Since the car was launched, it’s basically wowed everyone with its incredible performance, especially from standstill. That was to be expected to be honest, as one of the issues the F10 model had was putting the power down through the rear axle alone, not necessarily a lack of punch from the V8 engine.
That issue was solved with the arrival of the new M5, which now has all-wheel drive. The M xDrive system is quite potent and combined with the ludicrous amounts of power the BMW M5 has, it turned the car into a proper roller-coaster. But could a sedan such as the magnificent F90 keep up with a Ferrari? Not just any Ferrari either but the one fitted with the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever fitted into a production car, the 812 Superfast.
In case you’re not up to par with the Ferrari range, this car replaces the F12 Berlinetta and has a 6.5-liter V12 engine under the hood making 800 HP and 718 Nm (530 lb-ft) of torque. It uses a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and has a claimed 0-62 mph sprint of 2.9 seconds. The car will reach a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph) and has a power to weight ratio of 2.18 kg/HP. It’s quite a stunning machine and a proper supercar, no matter how you look at it.
On the other side of the strip we have a BMW F90 M5. However, this car has been tuned. According to the uploader, the car has 800 HP at its disposal but, at the same time, it’s considerably heavier than the Ferrari, with some 200 extra kilos to carry around. Can it keep up though? From standstill, the added traction of the M5 made it the winner but when it came to a rolling start, the Ferrari had the edge every single time. It’s amazing how close the two cars are though, all things considered.
